Melatonin

Melatonin is a hormone that control our sleep-wake cycle, or otherwise known as our circadian rhythm. Melatonin influences our deepest stages of sleep, stage IV and REM sleep, as well as improving the quality and how deeply we sleep. Melatonin is a mood enhancer and a great energizer. As we get older, we produce less and less melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that is over looked quite a bit, but it is very important. Melatonin has a profound affect on our immune system. Melatonin regulates our immune system, one way it does this is by increasing the amount of natural killer cells we have in our blood stream. Melatonin is responsible for helping maintain our body’s balance, equilibrium, and homeostasis. Melatonin is also a powerful antioxidant, as it can slow the aging process and fight free radicals. Most over the counter forms are from China and have contaminants. Pharmaceutical grade is 100% pure and always reliable. Dosage is very based upon the individual. Melatonin dosages can range from 3 mg to 30 mg. Some may even need a smaller dose of 1 mg if sensitivity is an issue.
